Ryhope CW 1-1 Stockton Town FC: Ryhope Colliery welfare rescue late draw against Stockton

A Jack Devlin equaliser gave Ryhope CW a draw with Stockton Town at Recreation Ground in the Northern League.

The away side started stronger and had the first good chance when a close-range header from Sonni Coleman was blocked by goalkeeper Joe Atkinson.

Ryhope’s first real chance came from Jack Devlin after he received the ball from Robbie Bird in the box but Michael Arthur made a good save.

Fred Woodhouse opened the scoring for Stockton Town in the 23rd minute, Peter Bulmer sent a low cross to Woodhouse who added a smart finish.

The remainder of the first half did not see much action after the goal ending with a lead 1-0 for the away side.

Colliery Welfare got back into the game in the second half but were struggling to create clear chances.

The Anchors had a good chance to double their lead in the 60th minute, Atkinson reacting well to keep out Woodhouse’s effort after a knock down from Adam Nicholson.

Devlin had a god chance when he was found by a cross to the back post and looped a header just wide.

Danni Lay saved Ryhope from a dangerous attack in the 71st minute blocking Peter Bulmer’s finish off the line.

Ryhope scored the equaliser in the 82nd minute, Jack Devlin received the ball from Weirs inside the box and added a smart finish.

Neither side were able to find a late winner and the spoils were shared between the two in-form sides.

In windy conditions Ryhope were able to leave Ashington with all three points to continue their good form.

After Ryhope’s 3-0 victory against league leaders on Wednesday, Colliery Welfare were full of confidence going into the game against fifteenth place Ashington.

Ashington who had not won in six games were looking to break their poor form against a team who they played only a month ago.

From the offset Ryhope had a disallowed goal by Jack Devlin in the third minute as he was deemed to be offside.

Ryhope continued to apply the pressure as Jon Weirs, Robbie Bird and Ollie Hotchkiss all attacked the home team’s goal.

Jon Weirs scored the opening goal of the match getting on the end of a cross from Robbie Bird, Weirs took advantage of the scramble in the box scoring in the eighth minute.

Ashington FC came back into the game after conceding as Channon North and Samuel Perez gave Ryhope a hard time in the first half.

Ashington’s pressure soon payed off as Perez managed to score the equalizer in the 25th minute, Jack Walker tried to return the ball to Ryhope’s goalkeeper Joe Atkinson but Perez took advantage and scored.

The first half ended with both teams having scored, after putting the pressure on each other leaving it all to play for in the second half.

The away side started the second half well as Perez and North both had great chances on goal through counter attacks.

Devlin, Bird and Weirs formed a dangerous trio in the second half causing problems for the Ashington defence.

In the 68th minute the Ryhope pressure paid off as Devlin scored the second of the match after a low cross was cooly converted as Ryhope took the lead once again.

Ashington tried to force an equaliser in the final quarter of the game however thanks to some great defending from the Ryhope back line, Colliery Welfare were able to hold on to the three points.

The victory means that Ryhope continue their fine league form heading into the final four games of the season.

Ryhope CW defeated Dunston UTS away, with three goals scored in the second half shocking the league leaders.

Prior to the game Dunston were twelve points clear at the top of the league only losing two games all season.

Meanwhile, Ryhope had only lost one game in their last seven going into the game.

Dunston UTS took control in the early stages of the game having keeping Ryhope pinned into their own half.

Four minutes in the home team almost grabbed an opener as Lewis King was on hand to head the ball onto the crossbar and the ball was then gathered by goalkeeper Joe Atkinson.

Jack Devlin and James Ellis both had great chances from counter attacks in response to the high pressure from Dunston.

Both teams had chances in the first half however neither side could convert their opportunities into goals, goalkeeper Joe Atkinson was on hand to produce some great saves to keep the game goalless going into the second half.

DANNIIn the second half the game took a turn, Ryhope applied the pressure and began attacking the Dunston defence.

Dunston goalkeeper Karl Dryden was forced into making some great saves to deny an opener early in the second half.

In the 60th minute the away team’s pressure eventually paid off when Jon Weirs sent a through ball to striker Jack Devlin who slotted the ball past the keeper..

Just 7 minutes later and after Ryhope continued to increase the pressure, Danni Lay was able to get on the end of the corner sending the ball between the players into the goal.

Despite being two down, the home side were continuing to attack but the Ryhope back line remained strong and were able to clear the danger.

In the final minutes of the game, Robbie Bird scored the final goal of the match with an outside of the foot shot after he ran through Dunston’s defence in the 89th minute.

In the end Ryhope CW took a much deserved win against Dunston UTS away.

The win means that Ryhope climb to tenth in the league with five games remaining.
