Ashington Preview

Another postponed game on Saturday means it has been two weeks since our impressive win against Billingham Town,

It is the same story for today’s opponents. Where they earned an away draw against Newcastle Benfield.

Ashington are without a win since early January. That 1-0 victory against Bishop Auckland is the only win in 2020.

In the FA Cup, Ashington progressed through the Extra Preliminary Round with a win over Albion Sports. Only to meet Marske United in the next round and get knocked out after a 3-1 defeat.

It was not an easy draw in the FA Vase for Ashington, meeting Stockton Town in the First Qualifying Round. They were beaten 4-0 at The Coverall Stadium.

In what could be considered a shocking finish Ashington could only muster one win in the League Cup group, with three defeats, leaving them second bottom on goal difference.

Earlier this season, Ashington was able to scrape a 3-2 home win against CW.

South Shields Academy “Hot Shot” Joins Colliery Welfare

We are pleased to welcome South Shields Academy forward Sam Hodgson on loan. Hodgson comes on an initial month deal with a view to extending if both Clubs are in agreement.

Sam scored five goals for The Mariners in a mid-week fixture against Scarborough Athletic, increasing his tally to 29 for the season and 13 in the last three games.

Ryhope Join Manager Chris McCabe had this to say on the arrival of Hodgson.

“We’ve been trying to get Sam in from South Shields for quite a while and we didn’t think it would happen.”

Hodgson will be available for selection on Saturday as Ryhope travel to Billingham Town.

“Sam is an exciting player and we are really looking forward to him joining up with us.”

The Ryhope Colliery Welfare Management Team and Committee would like to thank Philip Reay and everyone at South Shields for their support in bringing the deal to the table.
