Match Preview: Consett FC vs Ryhope CW

Colliery Welfare look to bounceback from this weekend’s away defeat to North Shields, when they face Consett away in Northern League Division One.

It will be a tough ask to beat a Consett team who sit 6th, picking up 18 points in seven games.

Consett had a perfect start to their league campaign, winning all of their first six.

However, they took their first defeat of the season, losing 2-1 away to Dunston at the weekend.

Hopefully, Ryhope can capitalise on any doubts creeping into their squad.

Adding to the test that Ryhope face will be the 4G pitch at the Belle View stadium.

Gary Pearson spoke on the prospect of playing on a 4G pitch following this weekend’s game: “You need every footballer you’ve got on the pitch because it’s a totally different game on that.

“It breeds football and if you’ve got players on the pitch that aren’t used to playing that type of football, I think they start trying to do things they wouldn’t normally do.

“We’ll be looking at team selection, and there may be a lot of changes on Tuesday. The team that gives the ball away the least on that pitch usually wins.”

Our last game against Consett was an emphatic victory for Ryhope at Recreation Ground.

Goals from Ben Riding, Nat Skidmore, Matty Weirs, Josh Home-Jackson, Joey Melvin and James Ellis secured a 6-1 home victory.

In last season’s game at Belle View, we came away with a 2-2 draw in heavy fog.

Welfare still have a long injury list which includes the likes of Jonny Ball, Joey Melvin, Corey Barnes, Josh Home-Jackson, and Davey Gordon.

However, with recent additions, Ryhope have a relatively large squad to chose from despite the injury list.
