Match Preview: Ryhope CW vs Dunston UTS

Colliery Welfare face a tough test in search for their second win on the bounce, coming up against high-flyers Dunston UTS at home in the Ebac Northern League this Saturday.

Chris Swailes’ men sit 2nd in the league, still unbeaten in the league after 12 games. They have 10 wins and two draws so far, and are three points of Consett with three games in hand.

UTS won 1-0 at home to Stockton last weekend after being held to a home draw by North Shields midweek.

They have had a very busy November, as runs in various cups caused them to fall behind on the fixture schedule.

Meanwhile, Ryhope got back to winning ways after a poor few weeks, beating neighbours Seaham 3-1 away from home.

It was a very good performance from Colliery Welfare, and they could have came away with more than just the three goals.

Hopefully, that carries some confidence into the weekend when we’re going to need to be in top form to get a result.

We have already faced Dunston in the FA Vase second qualifying round two months ago and were convincingly beaten.

Scott Heslop and Liam Brooks gave Dunston a victory, Ryhope had few chances in the game and the ones we had, we didn’t take.

The points were shared in our league games last season, Ryhope taking three points from Dunston on final day with a thrilling 4-2 victory, but Dunston taking the win at Recreation Ground 3-0.

Colliery Welfare have improved since we last played Dunston in September and it would be great to be the team that breaks their run.

However, it is going to be a difficult test against a very good side.
